AEG, the organizer of the 2008 Tour of California, has again selected the city of Solvang and the Santa Ynez Valley as hosts for the critical 5th Stage Individual Time Trial, February 22, 2008, the biggest professional cycling race in America. The long term benefits of this event in terms of exposure and in fostering tourism for our beautiful little Valley are significant.

In order to bring this world class event to the Valley, the Local Organizing Committee and Solvang have committed to provide much of the local support, including over 300 volunteers, housing and food for the athletes and their team support, local logistics and traffic control. Our budget for this event could exceed $80,000.

The help to fund this event will come from every part of our community and at all monetary levels. We hope you will join in this support.

Community Commemoritive Poster Available - $300

This year you have a unique opportunity to help bring the one of the largest sporting events in the country to the Santa Ynez Valley.

The City of Solvang is once again hosting Stage 5 of the Amgen Tour of California Professional Bike Race as it races through our beautiful valley.  As you can imagine the cost of putting on such a remarkable event are huge.  You can help out in bringing national media exposure to us by buying a Community Sponsor Poster.

Cost of the Commemorative Poster Sponsorship is $300.00 and as a thank you we would like to present you a poster printed with your name on it painted by local artist Susan Cobb.  It is suitable for framing, actual size 13 X 19 on High Gloss paper.

Regardless of your knowledge of cycling, this event will help most everyone in the valley through the trickle down affect of the world wide exposure for our valley. The event last year saw over 10,000 people visit the valley and should attract even more this year.  The television coverage on the VS network each night with one hour specifically in the Valley is immeasurable in advertising value.

Please join our team in bringing this exciting event to the roads of the valley, where last years winner and top 3 Tour de France finisher Levi Leipheimer, promises to again give us a show as he defends his title.  We encourage you all to come out and watch the riders start near Solvang Park, Finish on Copenhagen Dr., or at any point along the route as it meanders through the communities of Ballard and Los Olivos.
